Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered some of the most pressing question below to save you some time, but please browse our website for more details, or give us a call to book your visit and find out more information.

What is the age range for children attending Phileas Fox Nursery?

We welcome children aged two to four years. The children need to be turning two in the term in which they are joining. Very occasionally, and subject to availability, we accept children under two. The children normally stay at Phileas Fox for two or three years, until they go to school. For most prep schools, children must turn four before the 1st of September.

What languages are taught at Phileas Fox Nursery?

We offer a bilingual curriculum in English and at least one other language - French, Mandarin or Russian, with daily immersion in both languages. It is possible to do two languages as well. Our teachers are all native speaking early years professionals and work with us.

What are the nursery's operating hours?

Our nursery is open from 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. We offer different sessions: Breakfast provision, Morning session, Full Day, Afternoon session and After School provision. We have a minimum attendance requirement of five morning sessions per week, so can cater to all families looking for different childcare solutions.

We operate on a termly basis, with additional holiday clubs during half terms and some holidays, these are available to join at an extra cost. We close completely over the Christmas period and the month of August.

What is the staff-to-child ratio?

We maintain a low staff-to-child ratio of 1:4 for our Cubs class (2-3 year olds), and a maximum of 1:8 for Foxes class (3-4 year olds), however we often have smaller groups ensuring personalised attention for each child.

How do you support children's emotional and social development?

Our curriculum includes activities focused on building social skills, emotional awareness, and positive interactions with peers. We believe that once children have confidence and security they can become competent learners.

What qualifications do your teachers and staff have?

All of our teachers hold relevant qualifications in early childhood education and are experienced in bilingual teaching. All teachers continuously attend professional development workshops and training throughout the year.

How do you help children settle in during the first few weeks?

Normally most children settle in well at the end of the first week or two.
